Rekey After a Roommate or Tenant Leaves, Not After Something Goes Missing

August and September are move months around Gwinnett. If someone who had a key is gone, rekeying is cheaper than wondering who still has access.

The September move

College, roommate, and rental turnovers stack up this month. People change the Wi-Fi password and forget the deadbolt. If a former roommate still has a key, changing the code on a smart lock is not enough when the mechanical cylinder is the same.

Rekeying keeps the hardware and changes the pins. You get new keys. The old ones stop working.

Rekey vs replace

Rekey when the lock still works and you like the hardware. Replace when the cylinder is worn, the door was kicked, or you want a different function.

A lock that already sticks on a swollen Gwinnett door may need the door adjusted, not only a new cylinder.

What about garage keypads?

Change the code the same day. It is the opening people forget.

Compare locksmiths in Gwinnett or Suwanee locksmiths. Ask whether they rekey on site and how many keys are included.

If the door hardware is fine but the garage door opener is the weak point, that is garage door repair.

Use the locksmith directory when you want to pick the company before you are standing outside.
