If You Want the Kitchen Done Before Thanksgiving, September Is Decision Week

A Gwinnett kitchen that needs cabinets or a layout change will not finish in two weeks. If Thanksgiving is the deadline, the decisions belong in September.

The calendar nobody wants to hear

Cabinets, counter tops, and electrical inspections do not compress because relatives are flying in. If you are still choosing a sink in mid-October, you will be cooking on a hot plate.

September is when a realistic GC will tell you yes or no for a late-November finish.

What actually eats the schedule

  • Cabinet lead times
  • Moving a range or island that needs new electric
  • Tile that is "in stock" until it is not
  • Living in the house while the work happens

A cosmetic refresh (paint, hardware, a new faucet) is a different project from a wall coming down.

How to keep the job honest

Write the must-haves versus the nice-to-haves. If the dishwasher has to stay on the same wall, say so. Scope creep in week three is how Thanksgiving disappears.

Related trades

Electrical and plumbing often sit inside the same kitchen. A GC who already works with those trades will save you from three separate calendars.
